Practice guidelines make recommendations
for treating diseases or conditions in specific patient populations. Recommendations
are based on scientific evidence, expert opinion and the prevailing practice
at the institution where the guidelines will be used. Practice guideline
recommendations can be configured into therapeutic algorithms, critical
pathways, order sheets and reference tables -- documents useful to clinicians
making treatment decisions in real time.
The OCRM Practice Guideline Program is dedicated to producing guidelines
that facilitate consistent delivery of effective, efficient patient care.
Guideline projects will be led by interested providers who will work with
multidisciplinary groups of involved practitioners. Guideline development
groups will make recommendations based on the best available evidence,
combining findings from clinical research with expert opinion. The Practice
Guideline Program will promote guideline development, implementation and
outcome measurement across the breadth of the Clinical Enterprise by offering
the following services:
 |
Rigorous peer review of guideline proposals and completed products
as provided by the Practice
Guideline Review Committee, a multidisciplinary group charged with
promoting high quality, consistent guideline content. |
 |
Access to relevant clinical data and published materials that will
assist providers in guideline development, implementation and outcome measurement. |
 |
Staff to assist with data collection, data analysis, administrative/clerical
tasks and facilitating group interactions. |
 |
Assistance with dissemination and implementation of completed guidelines,
including development of paper documents and computer interfaces. |
